Honorary Consul of Republic of Benin, Alhaji Mutari Daura, has said that both his country and Nigeria have the capacity to assume leadership role in the African continent if the two nations chose to exploit its joint potentials.
Daura said this during an occasion to mark his country’s 50th independence anniversary Sunday in Kano.
He said that President Boni Yayi of Benin Republic was assiduously working towards realising this leadership role in Africa, as he had proven his ambition to reposition the nation, and place it in the global economic view.
He said in a speech he read at the occasion that, “Benin Republic and Nigeria have great joint opportunities to lead Africa towards economic prosperity and I have observed the need to exploit these joint opportunities for the betterment of both countries.”
He further stated the need for both nations to reinforce their business relationship, while exploring new openings offered in various sectors, such as tourism and eco-tourism, agricultural and food production, production and distribution of electricity, telecommunications, petroleum, public works and housing among others.
The honorary consul said, “It is not by accident that our great leaders and compatriots achieved independence for the republic; rather it was as a result of committed struggle pursued by our heroes past, who recognised the fact that if we could manage our own affairs, we would be able to achieve more feats and lead our great country to economic prosperity.”
