South Africa: Ex-police Chief Is Sentenced to 15 Years

Jackie Selebi, the former national police chief, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Tuesday after his conviction last month for accepting bribes from a drug kingpin. In issuing the sentence, Judge Meyer Joffe chastised Mr. Selebi, the former president of Interpol, the international police group, for fabricating evidence. Mr. Selebi is free on bond during the two weeks he has to file an appeal.
