Witches and wizards in the country have advised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from presidential race or risk being humiliated at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) primaries. The National Co-ordinator, Witches and Wizards Association of Nigeria (WITZAN), Dr Okhue Iboi, told Daily Sun in Lagos that Atiku would be disgraced during the PDP national congress.

South African nabbed drunk on umcombotsi
A South African man who had been enjoying umcombotsi for the first time during a funeral in the country was nabbed for drink-driving.
Elias Ntuli appeared for two counts of over speeding and drink-driving, to which he pleaded guilty when asked by the prosecutor. He was nabbed along Nkoyoyo around midnight.

INEC approves 8,465 polling units for Lagos
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said it had approved 8,465 Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines and polling units for the voter registration and elections coming up in April.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Centre of Excellence, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, who made the disclosure in Lagos said that over 240,000 adhoc workers have been employed to conduct the registration and voting process.

Food poisoning hits Cape Town township - 151 people
151 people were treated for food poisoning in Cape Town over the weekend, the city's Disaster Risk Management Centre said today.
Residents of Lwandle became ill after eating expired food that had been dumped, spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said.

Many Zimbabweans killed in two-vehicle crash

South Sudan ready to accommodate 150,000 returnees
South Sudan’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management James Kok Ruea revealed a plan to move displaced persons from the North to various areas in the South.
“Facilities and equipments are fully prepared for the reception of displaced persons returning from the North and other African capitals,” he said, expressing the government’s readiness to accommodate the returnees and provide them with all necessities.

The president of Ghana said on Friday his country would not take sides in a political standoff in neighbouring Ivory Coast and he did not believe using force would solve the problem.
The stance of one of West Africa's main powers underscores divisions in the region over how to end the crisis in Ivory Coast, which has been in turmoil since a November 28 election claimed by both incumbent Laurent Gbagbo and his rival Alassane Ouattara. World leaders have recognized Ouattara as winner and the West African regional bloc ECOWAS has threatened to oust Gbagbo by force.
