Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay has claimed on the club's tour of Asia that the Blues’ squad will be boosted by the addition of at least two more new players in the coming days.
The news comes soon after the Londoners agreed a fee with Barcelona for the signing of 19-year-old Oriol Romeu, and Gourlay has moved to show that the recruitment will not stop there.
“Andre has come in just a few weeks ago and needed some time to look at the pool of players we have, and we strengthened in January with bringing Fernando Torres and David Luiz into the squad,” Gourlay told Chelsea’s official Thailand supporters club.
“When a new coach comes in he has to look at players he has and think about tactics and systems, because different players play differently under different coaches and in the next 10 days Andre has the chance to analyse the squad and then we take it from there,” he continued.
“But from our activity in the market place in the past, if the coach feels there is a player available that can strengthen our team then we almost definitely go into the market place.
“We will have at least two signings in the next eight to 10 days.”
As the Uefa financial fair play rules loom over European clubs Gourlay said he was well aware of the challenge it would present to Chelsea and their free-spending chairman Roman Abrahmovich, as well as the impact that this would have on the new coach.
“Although our model is different to other clubs we have won major trophies and come very close to the Champions League, so the challenge there is to continue to be successful,” he said.
“Continuity is very important, but so is success and the way we play our football, so as far as Andre is concerned we are delighted he has come on board.
“He is one of the youngest and most exciting coaches that has come along in a number of years and I am sure he will bring success and trophies back to Chelsea in the very near future.”
