UNAD student gang-raped

The authorities of the University of Ado-Ekiti have expelled a pre-degree student of the institution, Miss Shadiat Hassan,
for allegedly luring her friend to the residence of two final year students of the same university where she (the victim) was gang-raped.

The expulsion was contained in a bulletin by UNAD Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajibade Olubunmi.

According to the PRO, the Registrar of the University, Dr. Omojola Awosusi, had conveyed the expulsion of the student to her with the approval of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dada Adelowo.

Hassan was in the Humanities Department until her expulsion.

The letter read in part, “You are to note that you must not be found within the premises of the university for any reason.”

Also, the university suspended the suspected rapists, Mr. Temitope Adeniyi and Mr. Cosmos Betiku, who are final year students in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.

The duo, who were residing at a private hostel in the Adebayo area of Ado-Ekitiwere reported to have raped the victim in turns. Hassan was said to have left the place immediately the two guys started raping her friend.

The suspects will also appear before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee of the university.

The suspects had been arrested by the police following a report that they had raped a 17-year-old student.

Three other students who were alleged to be members of unregistered associations in the university are also suspects in the case. The trio – Busola Daniel of Faculty of Education, Adebayo Gbolahan of Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, and Ayotunde Kolawole of Department of Public Administration (Part Time), are also to appear before the SDC for the final determination of their case.
